Curatorial Debut “The Young Artists’ Exhibition” at the Murray Pitkin Gallery

Curatorial Debut “The Young Artists’ Exhibition” at the Murray Pitkin Gallery

In December 2024, I had the pleasure of being asked by the owner of the Murray Pitkin Gallery, Micheal Rosenblum, to curate the Young Artist’s Exhibition.

We welcomed young artists, local to the Wychwoods and surround areas, with ages ranging from 7 to 18 years old. I had only just exhibited myself in a gallery, so this was a big step up for me, as someone with no art curator experience.

I managed to represent 20 amazing young artists and the talent was incredible! Our opening evening alone had more than 130 people, and we recently had the Groves Yard, “Christmas in the Yard” fair, where hundreds of people attended to see the artwork on offer. We sold eight pieces of the artwork.

We also welcomed a year 5/6 class from Burford Primary school to come and see one of their fellow pupils artwork, which was in the exhibition. It was truly an amazing experience to see how art affects younger people.

The teacher had planned their own workshop surround the art, and it was so lovely to see so many aspiring artists, especially in this iPad generation we see nowadays.

Honestly, it was one of my highlights of the year. I think it’s important to give other’s, especially younger people, the opportunity to say “I exhibited in a gallery”. There’s never too much art in the world, if anything we need more.

It’s made me want to own my own gallery one day. So keep your eyes peeled!
